DYNAMICS ENDS FY 2010 UP

Microsoft’s Dynamics line saw a 4 percent increase in revenue for the fourth quarter ended June 30, compared to last year’s corresponding period. And with that uptick, the Dynamics business ended fiscal 2010 with flat results, a big improvement from some quarters during the recession. That’s all the detail the company gives about the operations of Microsoft Business Solutions, which is part of the Microsoft Business Division. Read more...

SAP SYBASE DEAL CLEARS HURDLE

The European Commission has approved the acquisition of Sybase by SAP, which was the final regulatory approval needed for the deal to proceed. SAP is offering $65 per share cash for a total purchase of about $5.8 billion via a tender offer. The deal would give ownership of Sybase’s SQL Anywhere, PowerBuilder and a very far reaching mobile technology and messaging network. Besides its financial applications, SAP also owns business intelligence powerhouse BusinessObjects. Sybase had net income of $164 million and $1.2 billion in revenue for the year ended Dec. 31, 2009. ARREST MADE IN FULLSCOPE EMBEZZLEMENT

A former employee of FullScope, the Athens, Ala.-based Dynamics AX VAR, has been arrested and charged with the alleged theft of more than $100,000 from Fullscope. According to an article in the July 20, issue of the News Courier, May Seymore Holden, 35, a former accounts manager, is accused of depositing Fullscope checks in her own account between January and May 2010. INTUIT’S QUICKBASE DOES DOWN

Intuit’s computer system woes continued this week. This time it was QuickBase, the company’s online database that is utilized to develop online applications, which was down during the late afternoon and evening of Tuesday, July 20, and Wednesday, July 21, until about 9pm ET. The outage also took down the Accountant’s Copy File Transfer Service in the QuickBooks Accountant’s Edition. Read more...

INTACCT’S ACCOUNTANT PROGRAM: LOTS OF BPOS

Intacct has a busy accountant program which provides outsourced accounting services via the company’s online software. But while the company has pointed to the advantages of partnering with accounting firms, quite of a few of its outsourcers aren’t accounting firms. Right now, about 40 percent of the total are business process outsourcers. There’s some fairly recognizable names among them, including Citi Groups’ Citi PES - Financial & Accounting Outsourcing and Outsource Partners International. Read more...

COLUMBUS IT COMPLETES OFFERING

Columbus IT, the Dynamics reseller based in Denmark, raised about $8.3 million through the offering of 26.5 million shares. The offering had pre-emptive rights for share holders. It coincided with a buyout of the shares of Gaardboe Holdings, owned by founder Michael Gaardboe, by the largest Columbus IT shareholder, Consolidated Holdings. None of the securities were registered for sale in the United States. Gaardboe sold out after another company, EG Holdings, approached with an offer to buy all of Columbus IT. ACCOUNTMATE 8 RELEASED

AccountMate has released AccountMate 8 for SQL and Express incorporating new module, Custom Field Manager, which enables authorized users to add custom fields to new tabs within all accounting modules. Fields can also be added to the database while custom fields can be read-only or editable in select screen forms and the software can be customized to capture additional information without the need to modify source code. Also new is the ability to drill down on details in the Executive Summary Report, the ability to temporarily hold or increase customer credit limits, combine electronic payments during bank reconciliation, allocate quantity updated during work order explosion and support multi-step processing of work orders. UPDATING (WELL TRYING) EXACT’S CHANNEL PLANS

After an interview in March turned up Exact’s plans to develop its channel, it seemed time for an update, particularly since the number of resellers that were shown on the site this month, 30, are the same number shown in March. So I called Exact to talk to Frank Grogan, the director of channel sales. I was put through, except that Grogan now is VP of product development for a company in the healthcare business. MICROSOFT DEAL PUSHED FULLSCOPE RESULTS

Somehow the 8-K filed by Edgewater Technology slid by me in March. But it still makes good reading to see Fullscope’s results as an independent company. And among the most notables figures was that the company had $28 million accumulated loss and a $3.9 million shareholder’s deficit on Dec. 31, 2008.  Fullscope lost $350,037 in fiscal 2008, compared to net income of $945,036 for 2007. DENALI UPDATE PCI COMPLIANT

Cougar Mountain Software has kept its software line PCI compliant with the release of Denali 2.9. PCI is a standard for business that store, process or transmit credit and debit card data. To meet the PCI Standard Cougar is working with Merchant Warehouse whose Web-based MerchantWare Transport works with Denalis Accounts Receivable, Point of Sale, and Order Entry modules. When purchases use credit or debit cards in a system utilizing Denali, all data is transmitted to MerchantWarehouse’s payment gateway and all data is processed outside of Denali and the authorization automatically returned to the appropriate Denali module.
