INTACCT MOVES INTO PROJECT ACCOUNTING

Intacct has added a wrinkle to the market for project-based accounting software this week with the debut of Intacct Project Management. That puts the vendor of Internet products loosely into the same market as Dynamics SL and Deltek. I say loosely, because I'm always suspicious of the ability of Version 1.0 products to take on established players and about how Intacct will compete at the different sized companies Deltek serves.

Netherlands-based Exact said results improved for the half ended June 30, but earnings were down with revenue down in all categories. Net income was $15.4 million, down 21 percent when calculated in euros. Revenue of $145.5 million was off by 5 percent. Even the usual reliable source, maintenance, was down 1.7 percent because there was no adjustment for inflation, while license revenue fell by 2.2 percent. Intuit CEO Brad Smith had a good month as directors approved a nearly 19-percent raise in base salary for the year ending April 30 and a 46-percent increase in bonus for fiscal 2010. We won't know complete 2010 compensation until proxies are issued later this year, listing any stock and option awards. Smith's base jumps to $950,000 for fiscal 2011, up from $800,000 for the most recently ended year.
