Prices have been published for three editions of Sage Live, the new online accounting and business application from Sage. Personally, I like to call it the Emperor's New Software. The product is described as being suited for small business users who need mobile access to accounting data. Sage Live Essentials starts at $30 per month per user billed annually for full users, who can use Live from office and mobile devices. Business users, who can utilize it only via mobile devices, pay $10 per month per user.
ACUMATICA TO HAVE FIELD SERVICE

Acumatica has acquired technology from Englewood, Colo.-based M5 that will enable it to launch the Acumatica Field Service Edition later this year. Acumatica had a lot of announcements at this week's Partner Summit. But CEO Jon Roskill summed up why I think this is among the most important. "It's the first foray of Acumatica into a vertical market," Roskill told attendees.
MYOB HITS 170K CLOUD USERS

The MYOB Group said this week it has reached 170,000 online users for 2015, an increase of 46 percent from 2014. The Australia-based company announced the number at its annual MYOB Incite road show. That compares to 250,000 online subscribers that Xero has in Australia and another 150,000 in its home country of New Zealand. However, MYOB has thousands of on-premise users in its home country while Xero is cloud-only.

Online accounting software package FreshBooks has been redesigned. In what he called an open letter, CEO and company co-founder Mike McDerment said the revamp is needed to enable the company to meet its goal of serving self-employed professionals and their teams. McDerment, who said the re-write is still under way, said the result would be "A product that's easier to use, evolves faster and makes working with clients and teams easier."

Gabrielle Boko, former Sage marketing and branding executive, has been hired as global EVP of software marketing for Hewlett-Packard Enterprise. That gives her some immediate work as HP Enterprise is the Platinum Sponsor for Envision, the April Microsoft conference that resulted from a complete organ transplant involving the body of the former Convergence conference. Boko was with Sage North America from July 2013 until her departure in October.

Columbus has raised its predicted earnings and revenue for the year ended December 31. The Denmark-based reseller and ISV raised earnings estimate by 11.7 percent to about $15.7 million and revenue expectation by 9 percent to $168.4 million for the recently ended year. "We experienced a great final sprint in 2015 with a high activity level in several of our operational units, especially in the U.S., U.K. and Denmark, where the utilization of resources in the service business was very high," CEO Thomas Honoré said in a prepared statement.

Acumatica believes its channel is about the right size. "I am happy with the partners we have," CEO Jon Roskill said at this week's Acumatica Partner Summit. That means the company is unlikely to repeat the enlistment of 60 new resellers in 2015. Roskill said the company has more than 300 resellers worldwide with about 240 in North America. Of last year's class, 42 were added in this continent.

Dynamics revenue for the second quarter ended December 31 rose by 3 percent over the prior year, Microsoft said in its earnings report this week. The company, which does not breakout revenue numbers for the software line, said that was primarily because of the year-over-year doubling of the sale of seats for Dynamics CRM Online The totals were depressed by about 8 percent by the impact of currency changes.

NetSuite ended the year on December 31 with most important metrics changed in double digits. That includes its GAAP and non-GAAP losses, revenue, expenses and the average size of the company's SuiteCommerce deals. "We saw the average selling price actually double," CEO Zach Nelson said during this week's earnings webcast. The company also saw a record number of OneWorld deals.

NetSuite has signed m-Hance, a reseller based in the United Kingdom, to the NetSuite Solution Provider Partner Program. m-Hance is a Microsoft VAR that handles Dynamics GP and CRM and which will market NetSuite through its newly created HighCloud Solutions division. San Mateo, Calif.-based NetSuite also named five resellers on the European continent. But m-Hance is the most high-profile win.
