EVP SPRING GONE FROM SAGE

Earlier this month, I just missed Rich Spring, Sage North America's EVP and chief revenue officer, who was talking to someone at the Information Technology Alliance conference. He darted away before I could talk to him. No need now as the Spring era has ended. Spring, who joined the company in April, has left with Sage thanking him for his time. CFO Marc Scheipe, who is serving as interim president of Sage North America, will take over his duties until a replacement is found.

When discussing results for the year ended September 30, Stephen Kelly, CEO of the Sage Group, said almost 40 percent of the company's top 100 employees had been replaced. That shuffling continues as Sage's focus on operating as a global company—not country-by-country—is being shown by the continued appointment of staffers to global positions. Among those elevated in December was Sally Swoboda, who had been senior business analyst for X3, and who became global distribution product manager for the manufacturing package.

SAP Canada has hired John Graham as managing director. Graham replaces Bob Elliott, who became SVP of global sales for HootSuite in November. Elliott started at SAP in October 2007 and held the Canadian position from May 2013 until his departure. Graham has spent 14 years at SAP and was most recently head of the Global Partner Organization for SAP North America with, responsibility for managing strategic alliance partners, channel resellers, third-party partners, OEM partners, distribution, inside sales and managed cloud as a service. Graham also served as COO of SAP North America.

Fine Solutions, a Lynwood, Wash.-based Dynamics reseller, has acquired BestTechsSW a Dynamics GP VAR based in Issaquah, Wash. Mike LaBrie, former partner of the purchased company, has joined the Fine Solutions Project Delivery Team. Fine Solutions, headed by CEO Dan Fine, said the deal brings its staff to 35, expected to reach 50 in two years. (And there are so many deals this week I am running out of headline words for "buys".)
ALFAPEOPLE SELLS IT SERVICE MANAGEMENT

AlfaPeople, a Dynamics AX reseller, has sold its IT Service Management division to Gatineau, Quebec-based Provance. The deal transfers AlfaPeople's ITSM software, licensees and supporting personnel and other assets to Provance in exchange for equity. Provance will focus on software including IT Asset Management, on Microsoft platforms. The AlpaPeople and Provance products will be sold individually and packaged collections and be developed, supported and sold by the new merged entity under the Provance name.

Open Systems has acquired SouthWare Innovations, a financial software provider based in Auburn, Ala. No terms were disclosed as both companies are privately held. SouthWare was been around for a while—it was formed in 1984 by Jim Clemens, who has been its CEO since then. Open Systems, based in the Minneapolis, Minn., area, says SouthWare will continue to enhance its software and also market its software products.
ABILA PICKS CLIENT SERVICES VP

Abila has named Bethany Little to the position of VP of client services. Little joins the Austin, Texas-based nonprofit software vendor after serving as VP of customer success for HotSchedules from May 2014 through this month. She takes over a position previously held by Cooper Caywood, who had joined the nonprofit software company in March 2014.
XERO NAMES NZ AND AUSTRALIA HEADS

Xero, which publishes cloud-based software for small businesses, has named new managing directors for New Zealand and Australia. The two countries are the New Zealand company's biggest markets with Australia taking over No. 1 from the home country in the last two years. Anna Curzon became New Zealand managing director at the end of 2015 when Victoria Crone resigned to run for mayor of Auckland. Xero also said Trent Innis will replace Chris Ridd, who led the Aussie business for five years.

Dynamics AX reseller, PA Group USA has purchased Dynamics CRM VAR Cloud Nine Solutions. PA Group USA has also joined the new Microsoft Cloud Solutions Provider program. The acquiring company already carried Dynamics CRM, but its CEO, Jon Buchan, said the deal will bolster its CRM practice "because it gives us entry into key public sector verticals such as economic development and education that are very strategic to our growth."
RKL BUYS BAESIS FOR SAGE BIZ

RKL eSolutions has acquired Baesis, a Northborough, Mass.-based software reseller. Lancaster, Pa.-based RKL purchased the company for its Sage 100 and JobOps practices. It did not hang onto the Exact Macola line, which Baesis had picked up in October. Walt Goodfield, VP of sales and marketing for RKL, said Baesis had "previously spun off its Managed Services, Sage 50 and Macola practices to other companies not disclosed to RKL." JobOps, a manufacturing package, is sold through Sage resellers.
