DELTEK SPENDS ITS GAINS

Deltek logoDeltek had a 23-percent increase in revenue for the fourth quarter ended December 31. But the company decided to spend money across all major expense categories and a 70-percent increase in operating expenses produced a net loss of $7.7 million, compared to net income of $7.2 million a year earlier. Fishbowl Inventory has introduced Fishbowl Hosted Services, a hosted service for the company’s QuickBooks-oriented package which comes with Microsoft Office installed.  It’s designed for small and midsize businesses, which are the targets for Fishbowl’s products. EPICOR 9 DRIVES REVS BUT ...

Epicor rode to the end of 2010 on the back of Epicor 9, which has revitalized the company’s financial software revenue and made it much more channel friendly. But CEO George Klaus this week acknowledged what the numbers show, that the revenue growth hasn’t translated to the bottom line. “It’s not the profitability we would like,” he said during the earnings Webcast. ACTIVANT NET DOWN

Activant, which markets specialized financial software, reported that net income for the first quarter ended December 31 dropped to $3.5 million, down 22.4 percent from $4.5 million from last year’s corresponding period. Revenue for the most recently ended quarter was $89.8 million an increase of 1.9 percent from $88.1 million a year ago. Read more...

SAGE: SUPPORT KEY REV DRIVER

Paul HarrisonAn increased emphasis on selling premium support contracts is going to be one of the major initiatives undertaken under new chief executive Guy Berruyer. That was one of the points made this week as Sage Group executives spoke to analysts in a day-long conference in London. Increasing support revenue remains important for on-premise products, but will also be an important revenue generator in the SaaS world.

HOPPING ONTO THE SAASWAGON

The VAR signup war is on in the cloud. Acumatica, Intacct and NetSuite all issued press releases this week about their newly recruited VARs.  We’ll pass on the box shore for the moment, who has signed up the most, the biggest or best. The fact that the pace of announcements is picking up so rapidly, with both NetSuite and Intacct making inroads at accounting firms, showing the scope of the change. And that can mean only one thing – companies are looking at and buying Internet-based financial applications at a pace we haven’t seen before. Read more...

NETSUITE SPENDS INTO GROWTH

Zach NelsonFor all the optimism expressed, NetSuite lost $6.45 million, compared to $6.54 million in last year’s corresponding quarter. However, since revenue grew to $52.1 million, up 21 percent from just under $43 million, margins improved nicely, which seemed to please the analysts on the company’s conference call yesterday. NetSuite lost $27.5 million for 2010, compared to a loss of $23.3 million in 2009.

SAGE LAUNCHES ACCPAC 6.0

This is more in the line of Sage officially announced Accpac 6.0, since the company has been selling the next generation of this product since December. So anything said here is hardly a big secret. Also, this is more a hold-the-line announcement, getting something into the market until the real product comes out at the end of the year. The main thing hitting now, the portal interface, gives everyone a chance to get familiar with the program. Read more...

ACUMATICA TOTALS SIGNINGS

AcumaticaAcumatica signed several new VARS in the last week although the announcement was geared more at promoting the fact the company had signed 100 in its current push. The company continues to do well in signing Dynamics SL VARs since its architecture has a Solomon heritage. The latest include Exponential Consulting of Leesburg, Va., and Accountnet, a New City reseller, both which handle Dynamics GP and SL.
