BLACKBAUD BUYS WHIPPLEHILL

Travis Warren, WhippleHill CommunicationsBlackbaud has acquired WhippleHill Communications, a company that services K-12 private schools. The Charleston, S.C.-based nonprofit vendor is paying $35 million in cash for all shares of WhippleHill, which is based in New Hampshire. The acquired company, which was founded in 1988, will be merged with an existing Blackbaud group that serves the private school market and will be managed by WhippleHill president and founder, Travis Warren, as part of Blackaud's General Market Business Unit.

INTACCT FACES SUIT OVER PAY

Todd Hosein, plaintiffIntacct is facing  allegations it failed to pay over-time to sales representatives that are entitled to it.  A suit, filed as a class action complaint, was brought in California Superior Court for Santa Clara County by Todd Hosein in May but only recently released publicly via a press release. It alleges Intacct reduced costs by putting all overtime on a small number of employees. Intacct declined comment about the suit.

RKL, BAESIS INVEST IN JOBOPS

Joe Noll, RKL eSolutionsSage reseller RKL eSolutions has invested in the JobOps manufacturing line by taking an equity position in Synergistic Software Solutions. Synergistic, which owns the package, was sold by long-time owner BDO Seidman to a partnership that now includes private equity firm Anania & Associates Investment Co. and Baesis, a Sage reseller based in Northborough, Mass. JobOps is sold into the Sage 100 base.

Mick Jagger, the Rolling Stones The birth of a great-grandchild to Rolling Stone Mick Jagger got me thinking. With the Stone's fiftieth anniversary having passed, there are fans alive today who will live to see the 100th anniversary of the founding of the band. We're not sure what cities the tour will cover that year. I always say, 50 years ago who would have thought there would be more original Rolling Stones alive than Beatles?

SOCIUS TAKES IN W SQUARED

Shannon Harrington, W SquaredW Squared, a Dynamics GP reseller, has become part of the Socius Sales Affiliate Network. The Dublin, Ohio-based company is a Dynamics Master VAR. Socius said it has signed more than 20 affiliates since the Master VAR program began in October 2011. Based in Brentwood, Tenn., W Squared was founded in 2005. It also sells Dynamics CRM and provides managed and business process outsourcing services.

BLACKBAUD TO DRAW CLEARER ROAD MAP

Mike Gianoni, BlackbaudBlackbaud CEO Mike Gianoni this week promised the nonprofit software company will provide a clearer picture of its product plans. "We haven't been clear with our product acquisition and road map. You will see we will be very clear on what the portfolio looks like as go forward," Gianoni said in a presentation at the Evercore Vertical Cloud Symposium. The head of the Charleston, S.C.,-based company also dropped more nuggets about its plan to have payments and analytics capabilities available throughout its product line.

M-HANCE STARTS CLOUD SERVICE

Andrew Hayward, m-HanceM-hance, a Dynamics reseller based in the United Kingdom, has launched GP on Demand, a cloud-based managed service for Dynamics GP. The company says the service offers flexible licensing options, technical support and systems management. The product also extends web-based functionality to m-Hance's own applications, Purchase Management, Bank Management and Expenses Management.

INTACCT ADDS BI TOOL

Vijay Ramakrishnan, IntacctIntacct has added Performance Cards, a business analysis tool, in the latest release of its online software. Intacct says the cards provide quick access to data for insights. "They are native to the financial system of records," says Vijay Ramakrishnan, the company's senior director of product marketing. The cards are dashboard visualizations.

ABILA HIRES MARKETING VP

Tad Druart, AbilaNonprofit software vendor Abila has named Tad Druart as VP of marketing. He replaces Sandra Bucklin, who had taken over the job in May 2013 when Austin, Texas-based Abila was formed to sell the nonprofit products that had been purchased from Sage. Druart was previously director of marketing and communications of Compass Learning, also based in Austin, from October 2011 until he joined Abila. Before that he was director of corporate communications, marketing and investor Relations for Convio from February 2007 through October 2011.

ALERE CLIENT/SERVER IN WORKS

alere logoA recent newsletter from the TIW Corp., which markets the Alere line, notes that a client/server version of Alere Manufacturing is in development.  I quickly checked the date to make sure I had not received an old email.  But the May 2014 edition notes that the new version should be available in “a few short months.” It will be shipped on a CD that also has the LAN version of the software so that users can choose their platform.
