Adaptive Planning, which makes Internet-based budgeting software, has enlisted BDO Canada as a reseller of its cloud products. According to its website, the firm up north had $445 million (Canadian) in revenue for the year ended December 31. There are 105 Canadian offices with 383 partners and principals and a professional staff of 2,354. BDO’s midmarket financial software effort in Canada is carried out through BDO Solutions, which handles Dynamics AX, GP and NAV, and the Pronto XI line, along with NAV-X Distribution and Warehouse Management Software

An investor, Ephraim Fields of Echo Lake Capital has issued a letter hammering the independent directors of Edgewater Technology. The letter was quoted at length on the blog, Seeking Alpha, which indicates that Fields has done this before. Among other things, fields says that the three independent directors of the company, which owns Dynamics reseller Fullscope, lack experience in the technology field and have been primarily associated with nonprofits. Fields' letter is quoted further as stating "Collectively you appear to lack many skills critical to a well-functioning board including accounting, capital allocation, corporate finance, M&A, and strategic planning."

Veterans may remember that in 2002, Satya Nadella, was briefly scheduled to be the head of Microsoft Business Solutions. Microsoft's filing of a proxy with Nadella's salary and the news that Unit4 has received bids for private equity firms got be thinking about the past and future of the unit that markets Dynamics. As president of Microsoft's server and tools operations, Nadella is now a named executive and Microsoft disclosed that for 2013, he received total compensation of $7.7 million that included a salary of $669,167 and a cash award of $1.58 million.
SBS GROUP BUYS AX PRACTICE

The SBS Group, an Edison, N.J.-based reseller, has acquired the Dynamics AX practice from Irvine, based Calif.-Solugenix. According to SBS the acquisition makes it one of the few channel with an AX help desk and in-house development resources. Solugenix will continue to provide application lifecycle management, enterprise business support and professional staffing solutions not related to Dynamics AX.

Unit4, the Netherlands-based owner of Agresso and Coda, has received a takeover bid. The company says it has been approached by private equity firms, and that is plural with no names disclosed. In a prepared statement, Unit4 says the prices appear to be in the range of up to $47.80 per share (translating from euros). We will have to look up the share base to get an idea of the size.

Cloud accounting software company Intacct has integrated its system with Salesforce Identity. The latter program delivers identity services to any app on any device with single sign-on access. The system is particularly useful with dealing with the explosion of mobile devices and app and the Bring Your Own Device culture, according to Salesforce.

KeyedIn, which makes project management and manufacturing applications, has opened an office in Fort Myers, Fla. It is the third North American office for the cloud company. It if was just another office, this would be ho hum. However, the company says the office provides easier access to KeyedIn locations in Europe and Africa and will support planned expansion in the Caribbean and South America.

Blackbaud has released Blackbaud Online Express, a cloud-based tool for organizations that use its Raiser's Edge fundraising system. The Charleston, S.C.-based nonprofit software vendor bills the new SaaS product as mobile friendly and offering easy-to-building online donation forms and email marketing templates designed for nonprofits. Online Express works with such website management tools as Drupal and Joomla. Major features include the ability to create unlimited donation forms that can be transfer to users' websites by copying and pasting automatically-generated HTML code.
XERO RINGS UP $150M INVESTMENT

Recently, someone was speculating on the future of online accounting software vendor Xero based on the rate it was burning cash. Those calculations did not take into account the fact that Xero would be able to raise another $150 million in new funding, largely from American investors. The New Zealand-based company said this week that U.S. firms, including include Valar Ventures and Matrix Capital Management, chipped in $123 million of that amount.

Swiftpage, which acquired SalesLogix and Act from Sage, has introduced new mobile apps and mobile pricing for SalesLogix. The company is offering the third generation of the SalesLogix Mobile platform1 and the accompanying app. SalesLogix Mobile 3.0 is offered in a mobile-only subscription option for $25 per user per month.
