The vibes on Dynamics GP have not been good for a couple of years.  It has especially been subject to complaints that Microsoft had authorized far too many dealers and that they weren't always that good. The other criticism goes back to the origins at Great Plains, the complaint that too many functions have to be added by third-party products. Read more...

KaseyaKaseya, which has made its name in IT systems management, has acquired most of the assets of ObjAcct Inc., which makes the ObjAcct XML Accounting Suite. ObjAcct was founded by Solomon and SaaS veteran Lee Mellinger, who has joined Kaseya as SVP of the Financials Division. The accounting suite will be integrated into Kaseya's systems and service management platform, which Kaseya said would make it easy for IT professionals to capture and monetize costs associated with the delivery of IT services.

SAP GIVES MILD REFUTATION TO NETSUITE

Zach NelsonDuring his company's earnings Webcast this month, NetSuite CEO Zach Nelson went after the market status of SAP's Business By Design (as he often does).  I held off the publishing these comments until I could get an SAP response. In answer to an analyst's question, Nelson commented, "It's being seen a lot in SAP shops and divisions of SAP shops. ... I don't really believe it's in production. ... While they may be showing it, I don't think they are selling a lot of it. ... I think we’ll see it in actual production next year." Read more...

No numbers were provided about individual regions in the interim statement for the third quarter of Columbus IT Partner. But the Danish Microsoft reseller noted that it has "experienced progress in revenue in the United States, United Kingdom, Norway and Russia. It noted that "especially the US Company continues the positive development and growth is realized along with large cost savings." Read more...

Open Systems has moved into the Central American country of Costa Rica.  The company's website has a photograph of the country's president cutting the ribbon of the Grupo Moreno in San Jose, Costa Rica, last month and says that "Grupo Moreno has partnered with Open Systems Costa Rica to launch the Open Systems product lines in Costa Rica." Activant Solutions, which provides a variety of specialized accounting packages, says it expects to report revenue of $370 million to $371 million from continuing operations for the year ended September 30, slightly higher than the amount reported for fiscal 2009. Net income is expected to range from $27 million to $29 million, with the midpoint of that range 24.6 percent higher than a year earlier, excluding goodwill.

SAP has released an iPhone application that provides access to SAP Business One and is free to those with a maintenance contract with Business One 8 patch level 12 or higher. Users can receive alerts for specified events along with reports from Crystal Reports. The mobile application is available for the iPhone or the iPod touch with a minimum version 3.2 Mac OS. Radiant Systems logoPOS specialist Radiant Systems, whose offerings include the CounterPoint line, continued on a tear as its third quarter ended September 30 resulted in net income more than double last year while revenue rose by 26 percent over the third quarter a year earlier.  Earnings reached $7.5 million, compared to $3.4 million a year earlier with operating income having risen by 35 percent.
