But still, that revenue growth was the second consecutive quarter of improvement over the prior year, compared to flat to down results in earlier quarters. That translated into net income of $8.5 million for the recently ended quarter, down from $9.8 million a year earlier. Revenue rose to $83.2 million from $79.2 million.

SAGE MERGES IN X3

Sage North America has taken the next step in incorporating the X3 manufacturing package into its structure. Not surprisingly, Alex Attal, who led the unit for the last nine years, is leaving the company to pursue other interests after a transition period. Atta's involvement predates Sage's 2008 purchase of the company that marketed what was then called Adonix, which he joined in 2001 and served as CEO. The moves split apart the X3 structure with Steve Vukmaravich and the X3 sales team reporting to Pascal Van Dooren; Jeff Law and the R&D folks report to Alok Tyagi and so on. Generally, I'm surprised it took this long. No reflection on Attal or the X3 people but independent product groups don't often get to hang around in a big company, especially one that is as crucial to a company’s future as X3 is to Sage's.

Central to these is the Incentive program. As discussed by Kennedy, the new structure rewards growth and total revenue. "In many cases partners will have the opportunity to earn more than they do today.
