SAAS TAKING OFF BUT….

For all the talk of Internet-based financials starting to catch on, there's evidence that the category is still new for many. Members of the Information Technology Alliance who were hoping for a presentation on VAR experiences with SaaS products couldn’t find any traditional VARs among the membership who had experience selling the cloud. This week, NetSuite CFO Ron Gill told an audience at the Deutsche Bank Technology Conference that "We do still spend a portion of the sales cycle talking about SaaS" and he quickly noted that "Nobody makes an RFP for CRM without mentioning SAS, that’s not true for ERP." NETSUITE SIGNS VARS

There’s a contest going on to announce VAR signings and VAR and customer defections. This time NetSuite put out its PR about enlistments. Among the first two mentioned, one is very important and the other is an organization that was more visible a few years ago. In the very important range is Fargo, N.D.-based Eide Bailly, which seems a counter to Intacct’s signing LarsonAllen last year. NetSuite said the firm is a long-time Sage reseller, but there's no evidence of that on its Web site. Read more...

Gill was unable to provide the average price increase and the company hasn't responded to my inquiry about the amount. However, it's interesting to have prices raised since Gill also told the audience that the price of most deals is negotiated company by company.

PRONTO ADDS SOFTWARE MANAGER

Pronto Software has appointed Luke Thomas as product manager-financials to manage the direction, development and take-to-market strategy of its financIal applications. And given how quiet the company has been since announcing it was recruiting VARs in the United States, some action is necessary if it's going to be serious in this country. A year ago, the Australian company said it had signed three U.S. resellers, but since then, there hasn't been any channel news here, unless it's doing a stealth enlistment campaign. In his role, Thomas will manage the architecture development of the flagship product, Pronto-XI, and provide strategic input to the R&D team. Previously, he was global developer program manager at MYOB Australia and held positions in technical support, training and education.
