UNIT4 RESULTS: PROXY FOR Q3?

Unit 4 logoUnit 4, which owns the Agresso and Coda Financial lines, isn't a well-known name in the United States, but it is making a push here, although not through resellers. But let's hope for the industry's sake that more familiar vendors do as well as Unit 4 ended its third quarter on September 30 with revenue of about $139 million, an increase of more than 10 percent (as calculated in euros) from last year's corresponding period. DELTEK SEEKS REFINANCING

Deltek logoWhen a company is healthy, like Deltek, and is searching for refinancing, I take that as an optimistic sign. In this case, the Reston, Va.-based software vendor proposes to refinance its credit agreement which is comprised by a $151.9 million term loan maturing in April 2011 and April 2013 and a revolving credit facility of $22.5 million that expires in April 2013.

SAGE GETS A FRENCH CHIEF

Guy BerruyerGuy Berruyer, the new Sage Group chief executive, has taken over the job from long-time chairholder Paul Walker. That was effective on October 1, but you wouldn't know it because the only change to the company's Web page is that Frenchman Berruyer's picture and bio is in the place formerly occupied by Brit Walker. I would have marked the occasion with an announcement thanking Walker for his contributions and welcoming Berruyer on board.

Steve Elop, who jilted Microsoft to take a job as CEO of Nokia, did very well for himself in the two years he headed the Microsoft Business Division, the group that has oversight for Microsoft Business Solutions. He took in just under $21 million in total compensation, even if he did have to return $667,000 of his signing bonus because he didn't stay three years. He received the most compensation of any company officer in 2009 and 2010.

SAP SETS UP TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION SHOP

It's probably not as good as Click and Clack's radio shop, "Car Talk," but SAP has established what it calls a training and certification shop. The shop is on the company's website and enables visitors to choose which application they wish to research and the search elements for the company catalogue include subsolution (more or less vertical) and which role. The whole thing can be accessed at http://training.sap.com. Some of the roles are quite clear – technology consultant, team leader, tester trainer – but then there is "Change Manager". Isn't that the guy behind the counter at 7-11? The menus provide choices for All-in-One, Business One, Duet, Composite Application Development, and BPM and SOA. There's nothing, yet, for Business ByDesign. The training classes are fairly standard fare for things like certified application associate for Business One.
