CALL FOR TOP 100 VARS

This year marks the launch of Bob Scott’s Top 100 VARs.  VARs will be ranked by sales volume and will be selected from companies that center their business around mid-market financial applications. Basic information sought includes number of employees, revenue and ERP product line. For more information, contact me at This email address is being protected from spambots. ACCELLOS TO DEBUT SUITE

Accellos plans to introduce a range of products at Microsoft Dynamics Convergence 2011 in Atlanta. The applications getting a view include release 2.2 of the Accellos One Workspace composite application framework. The new release incorporates Microsoft Lync which enables users to email, instant message, call or initiate a meeting with other users. Read more...

SAP CONFERENCE: DISCIPLINED, ON MESSAGE

Maybe it’s that legendary German engineering, but this week’s SAP partner conference in Savannah, Ga., was well-run and delivered clear and (largely) consistent messages. It was also more formal. I usually see that many suits only at funerals. Among the messages pounded home was that SAP pays attention to the reseller’s balance sheet and P&L.

MAS 90 SALES STRONG

Word got around that with sales on the upswing, MAS 90 was the best performing package among Sage’s broad lines. Sage, per custom, didn’t comment on which line has done the best. But a statement was released from Laurie Schultz, senior VP and GM for Mid-Market ERP Solutions that suggested this is possibly true. The statement follows: Read more...

LAWSON RECRUITING VARS

Over the years, Lawson Software’s name has come up as toying with the VAR market.  It has a channel program, but its resellers are overseas, not in the United States and most members are higher-end than the typical midmarket VAR. But it’s on the prowl. At least, Paradigm Analytics was prepared to sign a reselling agreement today. Read more...

SAP PUSHES BUSINESS ANALYTICS

SAP is making a huge push on business analytics. But when it comes to whether the mid-market financial software VARs it is recruiting for Business By Design are a target, my first question was “Why?” The same response came from the VARs who are coming into this channel. More than one new VAR said that BYD has business analytics built-in and that the main BI line, BusinessObjects, makes little sense for the typical Sage or Microsoft reseller. It is more suited for the traditional SAP channel. Read more...

SAGE’S HOUILLON MAKING ROUNDS

Pascal Houillon, the CEO designate of Sage North America, has been meeting with resellers but has not yet not with the press regarding his new role.  That’s changing next month as Sage is lining up interviews for April 29. I have to wonder if something else is scheduled to happen then. When it was announced in December that Sue Swenson would retire from the position, Sage said that Houillon would take over “mid 2011”. NEW BYD VARS NAMED

SAP released a list of the new resellers it has signed – more in the last three months than in the previous year – for its Business By Design line. (I’m switching from the BBD acronym to SAP’s preferred BYD). Among these were WAC Consulting, a Sage Pro VAR that had signed six days before the conference; Paradigm Analytics, which carries Epicor and AccuFund; Kerr Consulting and Support, which handles Cyma and Accpac; and Vision Business Solutions, another Epicor dealer. PRONTO INTROS NEW VERSION

Pronto, an Australian ERP vendor, signed up three American VARs in September 2009, and nothing has been heard officially about the channel since then. But, for the record, it has introduced Pronto-XI Dimensions which ties together ERP transactions and BI analytics. Since this embeds the IBM Cognos BI suite, this possibly isn’t the product for this audience although the press release said it’s designed for mid-market businesses.

INTUIT OUTLINES COST OF ONLINE

Intuit last month discussed the cost of QuickBooks Online versus the price to buy and renew the desktop product.  And the formula should work the same for higher-priced packages sold via subscription. It costs more to lease than buy. Kiran Patel, SVP of Intuit’s Small Business Group, said that over five years a QuickBooks Online customer would pay $1,500, based on the $25 per month subscription price. Read more...
