SAGE: SUPPORT KEY REV DRIVER

Paul HarrisonAn increased emphasis on selling premium support contracts is going to be one of the major initiatives undertaken under new chief executive Guy Berruyer. That was one of the points made this week as Sage Group executives spoke to analysts in a day-long conference in London. Increasing support revenue remains important for on-premise products, but will also be an important revenue generator in the SaaS world.

HOPPING ONTO THE SAASWAGON

The VAR signup war is on in the cloud. Acumatica, Intacct and NetSuite all issued press releases this week about their newly recruited VARs.  We’ll pass on the box shore for the moment, who has signed up the most, the biggest or best. The fact that the pace of announcements is picking up so rapidly, with both NetSuite and Intacct making inroads at accounting firms, showing the scope of the change. And that can mean only one thing – companies are looking at and buying Internet-based financial applications at a pace we haven’t seen before. Read more...

NETSUITE SPENDS INTO GROWTH

Zach NelsonFor all the optimism expressed, NetSuite lost $6.45 million, compared to $6.54 million in last year’s corresponding quarter. However, since revenue grew to $52.1 million, up 21 percent from just under $43 million, margins improved nicely, which seemed to please the analysts on the company’s conference call yesterday. NetSuite lost $27.5 million for 2010, compared to a loss of $23.3 million in 2009.

SAGE LAUNCHES ACCPAC 6.0

This is more in the line of Sage officially announced Accpac 6.0, since the company has been selling the next generation of this product since December. So anything said here is hardly a big secret. Also, this is more a hold-the-line announcement, getting something into the market until the real product comes out at the end of the year. The main thing hitting now, the portal interface, gives everyone a chance to get familiar with the program. Read more...

The company continues to do well in signing Dynamics SL VARs since its architecture has a Solomon heritage. The latest include Exponential Consulting of Leesburg, Va., and Accountnet, a New City reseller, both which handle Dynamics GP and SL.

AICPA AND CPA2BIZ: HAVING IT BOTH WAYS

Burger King customers should have it so good. But as I explained in an editor’s note on our sister publication, the Progressive Accountant, I’ve never had much respect for the relationship between the American Institute of CPAs and its for-profit subsidiary, CPA2Biz.  I’m still waiting to hook up with Erik Asgeirsson, head of CPA2Biz (which I always refer to privately as the AICPA’s evil twin). But there’s no reason not to repeat my comments. The AICPA recently announced its new Service Organization Control reports, formerly called SAS 70 reports, which are designed to help companies that outsource services or tasks to third parties and it is designed for the SaaS world. No problem with that. Read more...

NELSON: DYNAMICS GP DISAPPEARING

Zach NelsonBefore the Dynamics fans rise in a roar, what NetSuite CEO Zach Nelson said during yesterday’s earnings webcast was that Dynamics GP is disappearing as a competitor.  He’d discussed that alleged trend before, but this time he put it in context. The words themselves are worth the jarring impact “The one prediction I will repeat is the continuing demise of Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains.” The elaboration came in answering an analyst question about which products NetSuite runs into. INFOR: NO REPSONSES

Last week’s mullings about the number of channel personnel who have joined Infor Global Solutions was sent to the public relations person who was if the company had any comments. There hasn’t been any response from PR and I don’t’ expect any. My last experience with Infor was trying to arrange an interview with SVP with Dennis Michalis, SVP and chief of staff, at the end of the Taylor Macdonald era. Read more...
