DEFENDING DYNAMICS GP

It was just a post by one person on the Microsoft Dynamics Community site, a statement that GP isn’t dead and there’s a lot coming in the next release. The idea that Microsoft has oiled a creaky product came in a reseller conversation that indicated there are a lot of welcome changes. But a succession of information on that website looks like someone is drumming up cheerleaders for products other than Dynamics AX.

EXACT CEO TO LEAVE IN AUGUST

Martijn Janmaat, CEO of Exact, the parent of the Macola line, has said he would not seek to extend his stay in the position past the one year that he said he would serve.  Janmaat, who was on the software vendor’s supervisory board, found himself thrust into the position in August 2010 after the job’s prior occupant, Raj Patel, left after five years. The best way to phrase it is that Janmaat set about cleaning up the mess that was left behind, which included an aging product line with no plans for moving some key applications forward and a company that was spread too thinly across the world.

DELTEK INTROS NEW ANALYTIX VERSION

Deltek has released a new version of Maconomy Analytix, a business intelligence application for professional services firms. The product utilizes technology from Business Objects, the SAP BI product. It has live business reporting and an intuitive ad hoc query tool and when I read the press release and visited the website, I ended with no clear idea of what is new in this version. When Deltek purchased Maconomy last year, it cited the latter’s strength in reaching certain markets that Deltek had been unable to crack and that included sales to accounting firms.

DEVELOPING RESELLING LEADERSHIP

David CieslakEarly this month, Arxis Technology, a Sage reseller based in Simi Valley, Calif., made Mark Severance, director of sales and marketing, a principal in the firm. For Severance, who joined the company in mid-2000, it was not just a matter of personal advancement. It was part of a process by principals David Cieslak and Bob Gaby to develop leadership from its ranks. And it’s something that a lot of VARs don’t do, even if they have resources to mount such a program. Read more...

VISION33 GETS BUSINESS ONE AWARD

Vision33 logoVision33, a reseller based in Irvine, Calif., was named SAP Business One Partner of the Year, USA, at the SAP Channel Partner Summit in Savannah, Ga., at the beginning of the month. Yes, this is catching up with old news, but at one point, having another SAP  announcement would have overloaded a couple of newsletters. Vision33 has emerged as one of the largest U.S. B1 resellers by acquiring other VARs, including Omega Business Systems in 2009.
