SWK SNAGS $1.1M X3 DEAL

SWK Technologies has closed on an X3 sale worth more than $1.1 million. The deal was announced by SWK's parent, SilverSun Technologies, and shows the potential for SWK to end 2013 with a real boom in revenue. The amount covers software and consulting services with the customer described as an international footwear manufacturer. SilverSun CEO Mark Meller said in a prepared statement that the previous record for deal was $700,000 for the company's first X3 transaction in 2012.
XERO REVAMPS PRICING

Online vendor Xero is redoing its pricing. The company is increasing the number of accounting editions available to business users and changing the subscriptions amounts. According to an investor presentation given recently, Xero has gone away from its small, medium and large versions which were priced at $19, $29 and $39 per month respectively. The new lineup begins with the Starter edition at $9 per month, then scales up to the Standard version for $40 per month.

Advent International, a Boston, Mass.-based private equity investor, has reached an agreement to buy Unit4, which makes the Coda and Agresso software lines. A major thrust of the agreement is the expansion of Unit4 and its product lines. The investment will accelerate Unit4's SaaS efforts, including its majority ownership in FinancialForce.com.

Actually, daughter Lindsay is financing a new movie with points earned from her Frequent Treatment plan. ... A news item this week says that an examination of DNA has led scientists to conclude humans interbred with a mystery species, one other than the Neanderthals and the Denisovans. I think that explains some of my cousins. There was another story that a two-headed stingray had been found. I think they are from the same part of my family.

Finley & Cook has been named Serenic's Partner of Excellence for the third time in four years. Serenic says the award is based on revenue attainment, customer retention, marketing efforts and commitment to Serenic. The Shawnee, Okla.-based accounting firm's business includes a specialty in tribal accounting. The Serenic practice is headed by Linda O'Neal. The firm also handles Dynamics CRM, and Serenic Navigator works with Dynamics Nav. Finley & Cook has handled the Serenic line since 1999.

Exact Online may have been discussed in the same breath as the proliferating crowd of low-end accounting software packages. In terms of price, it's not in the same league, but after all, it is designed for manufacturers and wholesale distributors. QuickBooks Online subscriptions were up 29 percent over a year ago with only a little help from the new version introduced in October. And that contributed to what Intuit CEO Brad Smith said, during the company’s earnings call for the first quarter ended October 31, was a strong start to fiscal 2014. And the number of active users of QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions rose 19.7 percent over last year’s corresponding period.

Xero is investing to gain market share, the message from its financial results that were released this week. For the six months ended September 30. Revenue for the most recently ended period was about $25 million, up 84 percent from a year earlier with a loss around $14.1 million, an increase of 144 percent from the red ink ago. Xero invested in building its company, including strengthening operations in the United States and with the $150 million in capital raised half month, it's got some cushion in the bank account to continue doing that.

Stuart Blumenthal, former VP at Sage reseller ISM, has taken a job with RKL eSolutions. The move stemmed from the decision of Phoenix, Ariz.-ISM to sell its Sage 500 practice to Lancaster, Pa.-based RKL. BJ O'Reilly, CEO of ISM, noted "We wanted to focus on Sage 100 practice and X3 and we are selling NetSuite as well." He added Sage has not been committed to Sage 500 for some time while RKL had the resources to work with the application because it has done a lot of development work with that product.
