AVALARA INKS UPSHOT, KALIO

AvalaraIn its bid to have a contract with every company on the planet, Avalara has signed agreements with Upshot Commerce and Kalio. Well, it only seems that way sometimes as Avalara piles on the agreements. But the latest two relationships add to a rapidly growing list of allies for the Bainbridge Island, Wash.-based sales-and-use tax company.

ATS DENIES EPICOR SUIT CLAIMS

Vivian Keena, Alternative Technology Solutions Alternative Technology Solutions has rejected claims by Epicor Software that it engaged in infringement of Epicor's copyright and intellectual property. Based in Aliso Viejo, Calif., ATS is a consulting firm that specializes in serving Epicor customers and most of its management worked at Epicor. In a prepared statement, ATS president and Vivian Keena rejected claims made by Epicor in infringement suit against her company and said that its business actually helps Epicor and its customers.

NEXTEC GETS GLOBAL X3 AWARD

Eric Frank, NexTecNo wonder Eric Frank, one of the owners of the NexTec Group sounded happy when asked how X3 was doing. The Seattle, Wash.-based reselling company got the Sage ERP X3 award for growth acceleration. X3 awards were handed out this week in a global X3 conference in Germany. With $14.14 million in annual revenue, NexTec moved a couple of spots in this year's Top 100 VAR selection. Frank's group splits its efforts between Sage and Microsoft. Besides X3, it offers Sage 500.

BLACKBAUD CRM UPDATED

BlackbaudNonprofit vendor Blackbaud has updated its CRM offering with enhancements that include the ability of users of Mobile CRM to view and create favorites, manage constituents and prospects, create and edit interactions. User experience enhancements include improved search capabilities and what the company calls a more intuitive and comprehensive constituent view.

SUGARCRM FILES $15.2M OFFERING

Dawn Jaeger, SugarCRMJust before SugarCon, the user conference held this week in New York, SugarCRM filed a $15.2 million offering statement with the SEC. This is different from most of these, which usually reflect proceeds from sales of securities, or issuance of debt. This filing is primarily about options and the Form D shows that the amount raised reflects the aggregate exercise price of options to purchase common stock of the issuer. Read more...

ARMANINO ADOPTS XERO

Jamie Sutherland, XeroWhen I see stories about the growth of Xero, I think of when a new product called QuickBooks hit the market. When it came roaring in the 1990s, the statement was products like Peachtree were disposable. People bought them and didn't use them. And now, accounting firm, Armanino, has adopted Xero, the low-end online software from New Zealand, for providing outsourced accounting services to its clients. It's a big win for the rapidly growing application company, which is still very small compared to its competitors.

EXACT ONLINE M'FACTURING HERE IN JUNE

Erik van der Meijden, ExactExact Online Manufacturing will enter the market in the United States in June in a controlled release. The planned introduction was outlined in the company's recently released annual report for 2012 and shows we are going to see a lot more new stuff from the Netherlands-based Exact than we have seen in years. The company had previously said it would introduce its low-end Exact Online in the American market in the fourth quarter.

For trips abroad, I have purchased several languages from Rosetta Stone, whose ads are impossible to escape on television.

SWK PARENT HIRES FINANCIAL ADVISOR

Damon Testaverde, Network 1 Financial SecuritiesSilverSun Technologies, parent to Sage reseller SWK Technologies, has hired a financial advisor. The Livingston, N.J.-based company it has retained investment banking firm, Network 1 Financial Securities, ”to advise the Company's management team on financial strategies to support its current growth initiatives." There was no elaboration on what this meant and no talk about looking for a buyer, investors or anything else. But the cash-poor balance sheet probably points the way to understanding this. BRAINSELL ACQUIRES BLYTHECO'S 300 LIST

James Ward, BrainsellBrainSell, a Topsfield, Mass.-based reseller, has purchased the Sage 300 list from Blytheco. "It’s a small piece of their business," said BrainSell CEO James Ward. Ward said his operation has Sage 300 personnel on both coasts and at the same time, Blytheco is concentrating on high-volume products. Read more...
